On Which Side of the Cross Are You?

"...there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left." (Luke 23:33b)

Jesus Christ is the one the axis of time revolves around. He is the one who is the divider of men. Even in his death we see mankind divided. He is crucified between two malefactors. One mocks him. Makes fun of him. Rejects Jesus claim as Messiah. As he hangs on the cross,  staring death in the face, he fails to acknowledge his sin, his need and enters into eternal damnation.  He stands as a representative of all mankind who refuse to come to Jesus and trust in Him as their Savior.

The malefactor on the other side of Jesus recognizes the direness of his situation and cries out to Jesus for forgiveness and help. Listen to the words of the repentant thief. "Dost thou not ear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we, indeed, justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom." (Luke 23:40-42)

What a different destiny this man now faced. Jesus said to him, "Today thou shalt be with me in paradise." (23:41)  Christ is the divider of men.  On which side of the cross are you?  Every man, woman and child must make a choice - either trust in Him as their Savior or reject Him. You are either for Him or against Him. There is no neutral ground. There they are two malefactors dying on a cross. Look at the cross standing between them. There is Jesus, right between them, dying for the sins of the world. On which side of the cross are you? Are you standing on the side of the malefactor who railed against Jesus and rejected Him? Are you standing on the side of the malefactor who acknowledge his sin and trusted in Jesus? Your eternal destiny, heaven or hell, is determined by which side of the cross you choose to stand.
