Prepared

Read: Hebrews 9:16 - 28
It pays to be prepared. Being prepared means facing the future and planning for
it. We plan for vacations, new homes, children’s education, sickness, old age,
etc. We secure car insurance to protect us against accidents, hospitalization to
protect us against sickness, social security and pensions to protect our
retirement, fire insurance to protect our homes and life insurance to protect
our families when we die. We have considered every possible means of disaster
and sought protection against it.
We need to consider more than possibilities, we need to consider realities and
the greatest reality of life
is death. We may have an accident, get sick, or our house may burn down, but we
will die. To provide for
only the physical needs of one’s family in case of death, is not being prepared.
Preparation for death means facing the spiritual consequences of death. Life
insurance will cover the costs of death and provide for the physical needs of
the family. Spiritual needs can only be met by being prepared to meet God. The
Scriptures tell us that this is only done by accepting Jesus Christ as your
personal Savior.
In our sinful condition, clothed in the rags of good works, we are unfit to meet
God. God cannot accept sinful man unless he is clothed in the righteousness of
Christ. (II Corinthians 5:21) How then do we prepare for death? By coming to God
in faith, and accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. This is the only way we can be
prepared to meet God. If death were to come today, are you prepared? If not,
accept God’s gift of salvation by putting your faith in Jesus Christ.
