Spiritual Disciple II

Read: II Timothy 3:1-17
Yesterday, we discovered that God has set rules by which His children are to
live. Rules that will allow
our lives to be lived for Him, to experience more of His blessing and to make us
more aware of His presence in our lives. Yesterday’s discovery was that we are
to BE FAITHFUL IN DAILY PRAYER.
The new spiritual discipline for today is found in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to
show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” And John 5:39, “Search the Scriptures for
in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of me.”
Spiritual Discipline #2, BE FAITHFUL IN DAILY BIBLE READING AND STUDY.
The testimony of the Psalmist was, “Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might
not sin against thee.” (Ps. 119:11) How does one hide the Word of God in his
heart? There are two ways: Study the Word, and Memorize the Word. We grow
physically because we have a proper diet. Spiritual growth is dependant upon a
proper diet. Also, Peter tells us that “As newborn babes, desire the sincere
milk of the Word, that
ye may grow thereby (1 Peter 2:2, 3) Many of God’s people are still babes in
Christ because they have not obeyed this important rule. We will not reach
spiritual maturity until we recognize the importance of God’s word and are
faithful in the pursuit of it.
Open the Book from God — the Bible. Study it! Search it! Memorize it! Are you
still a babe in Christ, or has there been growth because every day you have let
the Word of God become part of you?
